SURGERY - Dr. Saunders performs all of the surgeries at Saunders Veterinary Services. These surgeries include more routine surgeries such as ovariohysterectomies (spay), castrations (neuter) and feline declaws as well as non-routine surgeries such as cystotomies (bladder stone removal), gastrotomies (remove foreign bodies from the stomach) and enterotomies (remove foreign objects from the intestines).

DENTAL SERVICES - We perform professional dental cleanings on both dogs and cats. We use an electronic scaler and polisher to ensure we remove all areas of plaque and tartar, including under the gumline. In advanced dental disease cases we perform radiographs (x-rays) to help us see any pockets of infection under the gumline and determine if any teeth need to be extracted. Since our patients won't sit back in a chair and say "Ahhh", we use a light plane of anesthesia to safely perform all dental cleanings.

ANESTHESIA - All patients undergoing any anesthetic procedure have a pre-anesthetic blood panel and CBC performed. We also place catheters and give our anesthetic patients intravenous fluids during surgical procedures. We use a combination of sedatives, injectable anesthesia and inhaled anesthesia. This allows the surgical team to use smaller amounts of each of these components to allow the patient a quick and smooth recovery. Pictured here is our portable Isoflurane anesthesia machine. We can work from a large tank for longer procedures or utilize the small portable tanks for procedures in other areas of the hospital.

SURGICAL MONITOR - During any anesthetic procedure we monitor our patients with a SurgiVet monitor. This monitor is also used for our emergency and critical care patients. The monitor tracks your pet's heart and respiratory rates, EKG, blood pressure, internal temperature which is more accurate than a rectal temperature during anesthesia, pulse oximetry (oxygen levels of the blood), and carbon dioxide levels. We can even take a picture of yoru pet's EKG and other values for our records. All anesthetic patients also have a hands on surgical technician monitoring their gum color and capillary refill time. The technician in combination with the machine allows us to prevent many anesthetic issues by being constantly aware of your pet's anesthetic plane so any adjustments can be made as soon as they are needed.

RADIOLOGY - We have digital radiology at our practice. This can be used both for our small animal and our large animal/equine patients. We also have the capabilities to place your pet's x-rays on a disc for your records and we are able to e-mail radiographs. Digital radiology allows for quicker and easier consults with specialists outside of our area.

ULTRASOUND - We utilize ultrasonography in our practice for small animal diagnostics. We use ultrasonograhy to get a better internal picture when x-rays are not as definitive as needed. For example: bladder issues such as stones or tumors, internal organ issues such as tumors in the spleen and liver enlargements, pregnancy confirmations, any many other conditions.

COMPANION THERAPY LASER - This is our new Class 4 Companion Therapy Laser. This new technology is an additional tool to treat osteoarthritis, wound healing, trauma, injuries, as well as multiple other medical issues. The laser has a rechargable battery that allows it to be portable so it can be used on our large animal/equine patients here for chiropractic or acupuncture treatments that would benefit from an additional modality. ACUPUNCTURE - Acupuncture is the insertion of needles into specific points on the body to cause a desired healing effect. Acupuncture is virtually painless and this technique has been used in veterinary practice in China for at least 3000 years to treat many ailments. The Chinese also use acupuncture as preventative medicine against such problems as founder and colic in horses. Acupuncture is used all over the world, either by itself or in conjunction with Western medicine, to treat a wide variety of maladies in every species of domestic and exotic animals. Modern veterinary acupuncturists use solid needles, hypodermic needles, bleeding needles, electricity, heat, massage and low power lasers to stimulate acupuncture points. Acupuncture is not a cure-all, but can work very well when it is indicated

CHIROPRACTIC MEDICINE - Chiropractic medicine is a form of medicine that does not replace but compliments conventional medicine. Chiropractic medicine focuses on ensuring that the skeletal and muscular systems are aligned and balanced. In so doing, it ultimately balances the neurological (nervous system). Chiropractic involves a series of high velocity/low impact manipulations that are non-painful. It can be used for arthritic changes and for muscular-skeletal problems associated with internal organ disease. The number and duration of treatments varies with the animal and the condition.
